If a memory card has degraded there are different approaches that we can take in attempting to read it. While USB flash drives are our most common case, the same in-lab capability extends to SD cards, microSD cards, and CF cards used in cameras, drones, and dash cams. Corrupted card errors, “card needs to be formatted” prompts, and degraded cards are all cases we handle in the same laboratory, using the same precision tools.
Please note: If a memory card was bent, cracked, or run through a card reader that damaged the contacts, the recovery approach on monolithic devices is very different to a damaged USB drive — they do not contain removeable NAND chips. Monolithic SD and microSD cards fuse all the essential components—the controller, NAND flash memory, and circuit board—into a single, solid microchip. This design protects the fragile circuitry inside a block of hardened resin, allowing manufacturers to create incredibly small, shockproof, and waterproof storage media. Data Recovery on this type of media requires sanding down the board to reveal the pinout using logic analyzers to discover the correct solder points and reading methods. *We are currently not offering pinout discovery.
