Level 1 Hard Drive Recovery
Deleted, Formatted & Corrupted Data
A Level 1 recovery means your hard drive is physically healthy — no clicking, no grinding, no electronic failure — but your data is gone from view. Accidental deletion, an unintended format, a corrupted partition, or a failed operating system reinstall. The good news: on a healthy hard drive, “deleted” almost never means “destroyed.” It means the space has been marked as available — and until it’s overwritten, your data is still there to be recovered.
⚠️ Stop using the drive right now. Every minute a drive stays in use after deletion or formatting, the operating system may overwrite the exact sectors holding your lost files — and overwritten data is gone permanently. Do not install recovery software onto the affected drive; the installation itself can overwrite what you’re trying to save.
WHAT LEVEL 1 COVERS
Data Loss Without Physical Damage
These are the most common Level 1 scenarios we recover in our King of Prussia laboratory. If your drive sounds and behaves normally but your data is inaccessible, you’re likely in the right place.
Accidental Deletion
Accidental Format
A drive formatted by mistake — often during an OS install or when a prompt was accepted in a hurry. A quick format rewrites the file table, not the data itself, leaving most files recoverable.
Corrupted Partition or File System
The drive shows as RAW, unallocated, or asks to be formatted. The map to your files is damaged, but the files themselves are usually intact underneath.
Failed OS Update or Reinstall
Windows or macOS was reinstalled or a major update failed, and your user folders vanished. Depending on what was written where, substantial recovery is often possible.
Malware & Software Corruption
Virus damage, ransomware aftermath on non-encrypted files, or software that corrupted a working drive’s structures during a crash.
Lost or Missing Files
Files that disappeared after a crash, a sync error, or a move operation that failed midway — present yesterday, unfindable today.
