IN LAB – NO OUTSOURCING – KING OF PRUSSIA, PA

King of Prussia NVMe & SSD
Data Recovery Services

When your solid-state drive fails, who handles it matters as much as how. Tri-State Data Recovery performs every NVMe and SSD recovery in our own certified laboratory — no PC repair shops, no national middlemen, no mystery shipping. Your data stays local and stays protected.

⚠️ Stop. Do not power your drive on again. Every failed restart attempt on a degraded SSD can permanently overwrite NAND cells — and destroy data that might otherwise be recoverable. Bring it directly to our lab or call us first.

Your SSD Failed.
Don’t Make It Worse.

Tri-State Data Recovery has been the Philadelphia region’s trusted source for professional in-lab data recovery since 2011. Speak directly with a recovery engineer — not a sales rep, not a dispatcher routing your drive to a warehouse across the country.

THE DIFFERENCE IS CLEAR

Why Tri-State Data Recovery vs. Everyone Else

Most people don’t realize that PC repair shops and national chains rarely perform SSD data recovery themselves. Here’s what actually happens when you hand your drive to the wrong provider.

OUR RECOVERY PROCESS

How We Recover Your NVMe & SSD Data

SSD recovery is fundamentally different from mechanical hard drives. Our process is engineered around the architecture of NAND flash memory — not repurposed HDD methods.

𝟏

Intake & Write-Block

The moment your drive arrives, we image it with a hardware write-blocker. No data is overwritten. Your original drive state is preserved before any analysis begins.

𝟐

Diagnostic & Failure Analysis

Our engineer performs a comprehensive assessment: firmware health, controller status, NAND cell integrity, and logical vs. physical failure classification. We then call you with a firm quote — no surprises.

𝟑

Firmware & Controller Repair

Many SSD failures are firmware-level, or cell degradation. We use professional European hardware tools to interface directly with the drive controller, repair service areas, and unlock a safe mode without triggering data-destroying safeguards.

𝟒

NAND Chip-Off (if possible)

When a controller fails completely (in some feasible cases), we can carefully remove the NAND flash chips, read them individually with specialized hardware, and reconstruct the data by reversing the drive’s XOR interleaving pattern. This is the deepest level of SSD recovery.

𝟓

Data Verification & Transfer

Recovered data is verified for integrity, organized, and transferred to a new healthy drive of your choice — or one we supply. You review before you pay. No recovery, no charge beyond the diagnostic.

Controller Failure

The controller chip manages all read/write operations and wear-leveling. When it fails — from heat, power surge, or manufacturing defect — the drive becomes completely unresponsive. Our chip-off techniques can often bypass the failed controller entirely.

Cog Cog

Firmware Corruption

The most common SSD failure. The drive’s internal firmware becomes corrupted during a power loss, improper shutdown, or failed update. The drive appears undetectable or freezes the system. We restore the service area and re-establish communication with the controller.

Flash Flash

Power Surge & Electrical Damage

A power spike can damage the PCB, fuse, or controller of an SSD in milliseconds. Unlike HDDs, SSDs have no moving parts to protect through a traditional head-park, making them particularly vulnerable. We perform board-level diagnostics and component repair.

NAND Cell Degradation

Every NAND cell has a finite number of write cycles. Consumer SSDs typically fail between 3–5 years. Degraded cells cause uncorrectable ECC errors and data corruption. We use specialized read tools that operate at lower current to extract data from near-depleted cells.

Logical Corruption & Accidental Deletion

Accidentally deleted files, formatted drives, corrupt partitions, or failed OS upgrades — especially dangerous on SSDs because TRIM can permanently purge deleted data. Act fast. The sooner the drive is powered off, the better the chance of recovery.

Key Key

Encrypted SSD Recovery (BitLocker, FileVault)

Encrypted drives add a recovery layer of complexity. We work with BitLocker, FileVault, and hardware-encrypted NVMe drives when the encryption keys or recovery keys are available to the owner. We do not bypass encryption without proper authorization.

WHAT SETS US APART

Trained in Europe. Trusted Locally. Built for Forensics.

Export Export

We Never Outsource - Ever

When a PC repair shop or big-box retailer takes your SSD, they’re typically sending it to a third-party national lab under a white-label agreement. That means two markups, unknown hands on your data, and shipping delays. At Tri-State Data Recovery, every NVMe and SSD case is worked by our own engineers in our King of Prussia lab. Full stop.

Professional European Recovery Hardware

Consumer recovery software cannot communicate directly with a failed SSD controller. We use professional-grade hardware from the leading European data recovery technology developers — the same tools used by top labs and governments worldwide — to interface at the firmware level, read degraded NAND cells, and reconstruct XOR interleaved data.

Flow-tree Flow-tree

Chip-Off NAND/CPU Recovery Capabilty

Most local shops cannot perform chip-off NVMe recovery because it requires precision micro-soldering skills, specialized NAND reading hardware, and deep knowledge of proprietary scrambling algorithms. Our engineer has trained internationally with leading recovery specialists to offer this advanced capability on-site.

Transparent Pricing — No Surprises

We charge a $75 diagnostic fee for a thorough analysis. After that, you receive a phone call with a firm quote based upon a successful data recovery. There are no hidden fees tacked on after recovery is complete. Most SSD and NVMe recoveries fall between $500 and $2,500 depending on failure severity and drive capacity.

What Our Clients Say About SSD Recovery

4.9 stars across 300+ Google & Facebook reviews. Here are a few from clients who came to us after other providers failed them.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“I am a professional photographer who made the age-old mistake of neglecting to back up my work from three trips abroad. Can I mention that I also erased the SSD cards? I then cracked my solid state drive. Fearing all was lost for my clients, I contacted Don. He told me he did not believe the results would be good as the drive was so badly damaged. After locating two identical drives, Don was able to merge parts and completely RECOVER ALL photos. He is impressive in his ability, his manner, his professionalism, and dedication. I would recommend him wholeheartedly for any recovery project.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Sometimes. A drive that doesn’t appear in Device Manager, Disk Management, or BIOS is a very common presentation for firmware corruption or a failed controller. We also can use heating and cooling techniques and special soldering methods like chip reflowing to regain communication.  In many cases our tools can communicate with the drive at a lower firmware level than your operating system or enter in a “safe mode” — restoring detection and enabling extraction. If the controller has failed entirely, chip-off recovery may be performed, if feasible.

Significantly different. HDDs store data on magnetic platters that can be read with replacement read/write heads. SSDs store data in NAND flash cells that are managed by a controller and complex firmware. SSD recovery requires firmware-level tools, knowledge of the drive’s garbage collection and wear-leveling behavior, and in advanced cases, the ability to read raw NAND chips and reverse XOR scrambling algorithms. Standard HDD recovery tools and methods do not work on SSDs.

Possibly not — but act immediately. SSDs with TRIM enabled (which is most modern SSDs) will actively purge deleted data blocks to optimize future write performance. The longer you leave it powered on, the more data is permanently erased by TRIM. Power the drive off now, stop using it, and bring it to us as soon as possible for the best chance of recovery.

Yes. We have extensive experience with Apple’s proprietary SSD architecture and APFS/HFS+ file systems. We recover data from MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac SSDs including Fusion Drive failures. Unlike Apple Stores, we perform all work in our lab and your drive never gets shipped to an out-of-state facility.  Some newer models that have a nonremovable SSD we cannot perform chip-off recovery for.

Often yes — if the drive has not been powered on while wet. NAND flash chips themselves are generally water-resistant; it’s the PCB and controller that corrode. If you’ve experienced water damage, do not power the drive on.

Chip-off recovery involves physically removing the NAND flash memory chips from the drive’s PCB using precision micro-soldering equipment. The individual chips are then read using specialized hardware that can interface directly with raw NAND. The raw data — which is stored in an interleaved, XOR-scrambled format across multiple chips — is then reconstructed using knowledge of the specific controller’s encoding method. This is the deepest level of SSD recovery and requires both hardware expertise and advanced software decoding.  In some cases this is not possible because of controller encryption, time, cost, or parts availability.

After the initial diagnostic (typically completed within 1–2 business days), recovery timelines vary based on failure type. Firmware and logical recoveries often complete within 2–5 business days. Physical chip-off recoveries can take weeks due to the complexity of NAND decoding. We communicate proactively throughout the process and provide you with a realistic timeframe in our written quote.

Absolutely. “Unrecoverable” from a general repair shop almost always means “unrecoverable with the tools we have” — not unrecoverable in an absolute sense. We regularly receive drives declared unrecoverable by other providers and successfully extract data. The critical caveat is this: if the other shop ran recovery software or attempted repairs without proper precautions, they may have reduced your odds. Bring it to us for an independent assessment — there is no charge if we cannot recover your data other than a small diagnostic fee.
