The Two Disguises a Center City Listing Wears

Neither takes any expertise to see through, and both work on us as well as on anyone else.

A four-digit suite on an upper floor of a Center City tower is very often a serviced-office or virtual-office address — a mail and reception service, not a tenancy. Search the building’s floor plan or the suite number on its own and see how many unrelated businesses share it. A recovery laboratory needs power, filtration, benching and controlled access; it does not live on a shared reception floor.

Ours: A real office in King of Prussia that clients can drop off and pick up their drives.  Our certified clean room and data recovery laboratory is located minutes away at a secured Montgomery County facility that we no longer publish or open to visitors — we handle medical records and legal evidence, so restricted access is part of the chain of custody, not an inconvenience.

The harder one to spot, because the address is genuine. Put it into Street View and read the sign over the door — if it says phone repair, screen repair or computer repair under a different trading name, the listing is riding on that shop’s address. The reviews you just read may describe a different company entirely, and nobody at that counter opens drives or can give you clear answers to what went wrong.

Our answer: Outsourcing client data is unethical and carries many risks that could expose your data or result in permanent data loss.

Is the company named on the listing the same company that opens the drive? A single laboratory answers in one sentence. If the answer involves a partner facility, a network of labs, or anywhere the person on the phone can’t name, you have your answer indirectly.

Our answer: There is no second company, and the engineer who answers the phone is the one who opens your drive. See our certifications.

The Densest Square Mile of Regulated Records in Pennsylvania

Walk five minutes in any direction from the Square and you pass law firms, private wealth and advisory practices, accounting firms, architecture and design studios, medical and surgical offices, and the residential buildings where a good many of those people also work from home two days a week.

Almost all of it is data somebody is answerable for. Client files under privilege. Portfolio and transaction records under retention obligations. Patient records under HIPAA. Design and drawing sets a client paid for and owns. When a drive holding any of that fails, the question stops being “can the files come back” and becomes “who touched them, where did they physically go, and can I demonstrate it afterwards.”

Whether you’re in Manayunk, Old City, University City, Society Hill, Center City or Rittenhouse Square, the story is the same in PhiladelphiaAnd a prepaid shipping label answers none of that. Our answer is short: the drive goes from your hands to the engineer’s, the work happens in one certified laboratory, the custody record is written down, and the recovered data is securely erased two weeks after you have it back unless you tell us otherwise in writing.

WHAT WE RECOVER

From Case Files to Family Photographs

Hard Drive Recovery Hard Drive Recovery

Hard Drive Recovery

Hard drives that are clicking, seized and beeping from a drop; head crashes, firmware faults and bad sectors caused from media damage. Weak or faulty head assemblies replaced with precision-matched donor parts inside our certified clean room.

STUDIO & DESIGN FILES

Architecture and drawing sets, design libraries, photography and video work — usually very large files on one fast external drive that travels between studio and home.

PRACTICE & OFFICE SERVERS PRACTICE & OFFICE SERVERS

PRACTICE & OFFICE SERVERS

RAID arrays, NAS units and small-office servers for firms and practices around the Square. If a drive in a live array just failed, power down and call before anyone attempts a rebuild.

HOUSEHOLD & ESTATE ARCHIVES HOUSEHOLD & ESTATE ARCHIVES

HOUSEHOLD & ESTATE ARCHIVES

Two decades of sentimental family photographs, home videos, and the drives that surface while settling an estate — often old, often the only copy, and frequently the most important recovery of the week.

MACBOOK & APPLE RECOVERY MACBOOK & APPLE RECOVERY

MACBOOK & APPLE RECOVERY

Macs and MacBooks with a removable SSD or hard drive, Fusion Drives, iMacs, and the MacBook models that carry Apple’s data-recovery (“lifeboat”) connector. Also Airport Time Capsule and LaCie external drives. We don’t perform board repairs on current MacBooks with soldered storage — we’ll tell you that on the first call rather than after we have your machine.

LEGAL & ADVISORY RECORDS LEGAL & ADVISORY RECORDS

LEGAL & ADVISORY RECORDS

Case material, client files, transaction and portfolio records, correspondence. NDA signed before work begins, written custody record throughout, and write-block forensic imaging where the data may itself become evidence.

HOW THE PROCESS WORKS

LOCAL, SECURE & FAST

01

CALL FIRST

Call first for a free consultation and to schedule your appointment, then drive about 35 minutes out the Schuylkill to our King of Prussia office — there’s parking — and hand the drive to the engineer.

02

Thorough Diagnostic

We identify exactly what failed and what’s involved in the recovery attempt. No third-party queue and no guessing — and we call you with the answer along with the probability of success moving forward with the attempt.

03

Transparent Quote

Receive a phone call within 24 hours, or faster if expedited, with a firm quote and details about the work involved in your recovery attempt before any work starts. No charge beyond the diagnostic if we can’t recover it.

04

Recovery Performed

We reverse engineer and repair the drive itself — failed heads, seized motors, corrupted firmware — until it can be read again using state-of-the-art tools like the PC-3000 and safely extract the targeted data onto a good drive – inside a clean room independently certified to ISO Class 4.

05

Verify & Return

Review the recovered data in person at our King of Prussia office before making payment. In most cases we can separate any damaged files for you, so you know exactly what you are paying for. Collect at our King of Prussia office, or we return it to you securely while keeping a copy for 2 weeks.

NO BALLOONED QUOTES

WHAT CERTIFIED LABORATORY DATA RECOVERY COSTS

$106

Diagnostic · Per Drive · Tax Included

Applied toward a successful recovery. Tells you what failed, odds of success – if the recovery attempt is feasible, and what it will cost, before you commit to anything.

$400+

Typical Single-Drive Recovery

Depends on whether the failure is logical, electronic or mechanical and how much time is involved in the work. Clean room work with donor parts sits higher. You get a phone call with a firm quote first.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Answers to the Most Common Concerns

Not a real one. The Center City addresses advertising data recovery are collection points and virtual suites belonging to national companies, because a Philadelphia address ranks better than an out-of-state one. Nothing is opened there. Tri-State Data Recovery is a certified laboratory operating in Montgomery County, with client intake at our King of Prussia office about 35 minutes out the Schuylkill — and unlike anywhere in Center City, there’s somewhere to park when you arrive.

More than most people expect, and in a Rittenhouse building the count starts before the drive even leaves. It passes the concierge or front desk, an entry level tech who usually tampers with it before sending it to the package room, a courier pickup, at least one regional sorting facility, and a receiving dock at the far end. Only after all of that does anyone who knows what a hard drive is finally touch it. Every one of those hands is a point where a failed drive can be dropped, crushed under something heavier, or simply lost — and none of them are covered by any agreement you have signed.

Regularly. We sign NDAs upon request, execute Business Associate Agreements where health data is involved, keep documented chain of custody from intake to return, and securely erase recovered data two weeks after completion unless you arrange otherwise in writing. For regulated practices this matters directly: recordkeeping obligations don’t pause because a drive failed, and a drive couriered to an unnamed third-party facility means client records have been handled by people outside your compliance perimeter.

About 35 minutes out the Schuylkill Expressway, and there’s parking at the other end. Client drop-off and pickup are at our corporate office, 630 Freedom Business Center Drive, Floor 3, King of Prussia. You hand the drive to the engineer who will do the work and collect it from the same person. The recovery laboratory itself is at a secured Montgomery County facility we no longer open to visitors, because we handle medical records and legal evidence and restricted access is part of the chain of custody.  A short drive is worth the peace of mind.

Probably less than you think. Sync is not backup. iCloud, Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive replicate whatever happens on your machine — delete a folder and it deletes everywhere, and ransomware encryption propagates to every copy. Local-only files, anything in a folder you excluded from sync, and application data are frequently not there at all. On current Macs the storage is also soldered to the logic board and encrypted against a controller on that same board, so recovery means board-level micro-soldering rather than software.

Every case starts with a $106 diagnostic per drive, tax included, applied toward a successful recovery. You receive a firm written quote before any work begins, and there’s no charge beyond the diagnostic if the data can’t be recovered. Most single-drive physical recoveries fall in the $400 and up range depending on whether the failure is logical, electronic or mechanical.
