In 2014, when the laboratory first moved to Pennsylvania, the bench was in a workshop in a neighborhood of Bala Cynwyd called Belmont Hills which borders Philadelphia — walking distance from Main Street and close to Germantown, straight over the bridge. That is where a reporter from the Main Line Times came out in early 2015 to see what data recovery actually involved.

There is something fitting about having started here. Manayunk exists because of the canal and the mills — a neighborhood built by people who made physical things and fixed them when they broke. That is closer to what happens on a recovery bench than most people assume. This isn’t software. It’s a sealed mechanical device with parts inside it that have to be matched, replaced and aligned by hand, under a microscope, in filtered air.The company moved on later that year to a laboratory building on Darby Road in Havertown, then — after the pandemic forced that building’s sale in 2020 — to Collegeville, and in 2026 to King of Prussia with a secured Montgomery County laboratory. Every address within about half an hour of this one. The engineer has been the same the whole time.
