A NEIGHBORHOOD THAT KNOWS BETTER

Germantown Has Been Keeping Records Since 1683

There is probably no square mile in America that has taken custody of paper more seriously. The Johnson House kept accounts while sheltering people escaping slavery. Wyck holds the letters and ledgers of nine generations of one family. Stenton, Cliveden and Grumblethorpe have survived war, fire, and three centuries of ordinary neglect because somebody in every generation decided the record mattered enough to look after properly.

Which makes Germantown a strange place to hand your only copy of something important to an address that turns out to be a mailbox.

Although highly concentrated in Old City, Rittenhouse Square and Center City – we see the modern version of that custody problem constantly from this part of Philadelphia near Manayunk: a congregation’s scanned registers, a historical society’s digitization project, a family historian’s twenty years of research, a small nonprofit’s entire operating history — all of it on one external drive, with the paper originals fragile, restricted, or long gone. When that drive fails, the loss is the same kind of loss those houses spent three hundred years preventing.

THREE FREE CHECKS

How to Tell a Laboratory From a Listing

None of these takes more than a minute, and all three work on us as well as on anyone else.

A recovery laboratory is a building with equipment in it. If the address resolves to a mail centre, a shared executive suite, a UPS Store, or a shopfront selling something else entirely, there is no lab there and there never was. This check is free, takes thirty seconds, and it settles most of these cases on its own.

Ours: In our own certified and secure local laboratory in Montgomery County after meeting in King of Prussia, PA. Your drive does not leave the engineer’s chain of custody, and it is never shipped out or sent to a third party.

A real lab answers immediately and specifically, and can tell you the name of the person who will do the work – along with any certifications backing their claims. A listing gets vague, talks about “our network of facilities,” or offers to email you a prepaid shipping label — which is the answer, just not stated plainly.

You are about to hand over the only copy of something you can’t replace. Being able to put it into a person’s hand, and collect it from the same person, is not an unreasonable thing to want. If the answer is that drop-off isn’t available at that location, you now know what that location is.

THE DIFFERENCE IS CLEAR

Why Northwest Philadelphia Drives Out to Us

WHAT WE RECOVER

Every Drive Type, One Local Laboratory

Hard Drive Recovery Hard Drive Recovery

Hard Drive Recovery

Hard drives that are clicking, seized and beeping from a drop; head crashes, firmware faults and bad sectors caused from media damage. Weak or faulty head assemblies replaced with precision-matched donor parts inside our certified clean room.

SSD & NVMe Recovery SSD & NVMe Recovery

SSD & NVMe Recovery

These devices degrade while in use and develop bad sectors , firmware corruption and some times require NAND-level recovery on solid-state drives that are no longer recognized. Degraded NVMe drives require specialized hardware, not a software license.

RAID, NAS & Server Recovery RAID, NAS & Server Recovery

RAID, NAS & Server Recovery

Failed rebuilds, multiple drive failures and degraded arrays for congregations, nonprofits and small businesses across Northwest Philadelphia. Don’t rebuild before the array is imaged.

ARCHIVES & SCANNED RECORDS

Digitisation projects, scanned registers, photograph collections and genealogical research — often decades of work on a single external drive with no second copy and no replaceable original.

Apple & Mac Devices Apple & Mac Devices

Apple & Mac Devices

Macs and MacBooks with a removable SSD or hard drive, Fusion Drives, iMacs, and the MacBook models that carry Apple’s data-recovery (“lifeboat”) connector. Also Airport Time Capsule and LaCie external drives. We don’t perform board repairs on current MacBooks with soldered storage — we’ll tell you that on the first call rather than after we have your machine.

Water & Fire Damage Water & Fire Damage

Water & Fire Damage

Flooded basements, burst pipes and house fires. The most time-sensitive cases we handle, because corrosion continues long after the drive appears dry. Don’t power it on to test it.

HOW THE PROCESS WORKS

LOCAL, SECURE & FAST

01

CALL FIRST

Call first to discuss your case and schedule your appointment, then drive about 30 minutes out Lincoln Drive to our King of Prussia office and hand the drive to the engineer.

02

Thorough Diagnostic

We identify exactly what failed and what’s involved in the recovery attempt. No third-party queue and no guessing — and we call you with the answer along with the probability of success moving forward with the attempt.

03

Transparent Quote

Receive a phone call within 24 hours, or faster if expedited, with a firm quote and details about the work involved in your recovery attempt before any work starts. No charge beyond the diagnostic if we can’t recover it.

04

Recovery Performed

We reverse engineer and repair the drive itself — failed heads, seized motors, corrupted firmware — until it can be read again using state-of-the-art tools like the PC-3000 and safely extract the targeted data onto a good drive – inside a clean room independently certified to ISO Class 4.

05

Verify & Return

Review the recovered data in person at our King of Prussia office before making payment. In most cases we can separate any damaged files for you, so you know exactly what you are paying for. Collect at our King of Prussia office, or we return it to you securely while keeping a copy for 2 weeks.

NO BALLOONED QUOTES

WHAT CERTIFIED LABORATORY DATA RECOVERY COSTS

$106

Diagnostic · Per Drive · Tax Included

Applied toward a successful recovery. Tells you what failed, odds of success – if the recovery attempt is feasible, and what it will cost, before you commit to anything.

$400+

Typical Single-Drive Recovery

Depends on whether the failure is logical, electronic or mechanical and how much time is involved in the work. Clean room work with donor parts sits higher. You get a phone call with a firm quote first.

REVIEWS FROM PEOPLE WHO DROVE OUT

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Answers to the Most Common Concerns

Search and you’ll find addresses that claim to be. Before you drive to one, look it up on Street View. National data recovery companies routinely list a suite number at a shared office building, a mail center, or pay a storefront to host them that has nothing to do with recovery, because a local address ranks better than an out-of-state one. Your drive is collected and shipped elsewhere. Tri-State Data Recovery is a certified laboratory operating in Montgomery County, with client intake at our King of Prussia office about 30 minutes from Germantown Avenue. Nothing is shipped and nothing is outsourced.

Three checks, all free. Look at the address on Street View and see what building is actually there. Call and ask where your drive physically goes and who opens it — a real lab answers immediately and specifically. Ask whether you can drop off in person and meet the engineer. Apply the same three to us: our office is at 630 Freedom Business Center Drive, Floor 3, King of Prussia, you hand the drive to the engineer who will open it, and you collect it from the same person.

Yes, and it’s more common in this part of the city than anywhere else we serve. Congregations, historical societies, community organizations and family historians in Northwest Philadelphia hold decades of scanning on a single external drive with no second copy. Those files are often irreplaceable in the literal sense — the paper originals may be fragile, restricted, or already gone. We recover them the same way we recover anything else, and we’ll tell you honestly what’s achievable before you commit.

About 30 minutes. Client drop-off and pickup are at our corporate office, 630 Freedom Business Center Drive, Floor 3, King of Prussia — out Lincoln Drive to the Schuylkill, or Ridge Avenue if traffic is against you. The recovery laboratory itself is at a secured Montgomery County facility we no longer open to visitors, because we handle medical records and legal evidence and restricted access is part of the chain of custody.

Usually yes, and the sooner the better. Water damage is the most time-sensitive case we handle because corrosion continues after the drive dries — don’t power it on to test it, and don’t let it sit for weeks. Dropped drives depend on whether the heads contacted the platter and how many times it was powered up afterwards. In both cases the single most valuable thing you can do costs nothing: unplug it, leave it alone, and call.

Every case starts with a $106 diagnostic per drive, tax included, applied toward a successful recovery. You receive a firm quote before any work begins, and there’s no charge beyond the diagnostic if the data can’t be recovered. Most single-drive physical recoveries fall in the $400 and up range depending on whether the failure is logical, electronic or mechanical.
